UCIC Learning Center is now enrolling for its kindergarten class. This program is full-day (9:00 to 3:30 Monday through Friday) so we can teach all the academic subjects and still have time for skill development and creative expression activities. It is our desire to make learning fun while we reach for academic excellence.

A Glance at Our Kindergarten
Subject: This year we will work to:
Bible
- Learn about the people, events and spiritual lessons involved with the stories of:
- Adam & Eve, Noah; Jesus' birth, death & resurrection and stories of children in the Bible.
- Understand the month¡¯s character quality and how to apply it.
- Memorize verses dealing with the character traits and other lessons.
- Understand how wonderfully God made us.
- Trust God to care for personal and family needs.
- Know Jesus loves us and desires our love, obedience and commitment.
Phonics
- Learn the names of all letters.
- Learn the sounds of each letter.
- Blend consonant, vowel, consonant words (c-v-c) (cat, sit, run).
- Begin to read words with multiple vowels.
- Blend short phonetic words and sentences.
Reading
- Begin developing a sight word vocabulary.
- Independently read short phonetic stories (orally & silently).
- Recall characters, sequence of events and main ideas in stories.
- Understand common types of reading materials: true & make believe stories, information books, rhymes and riddles, etc.
Language
- Learn to capitalize the first letter in a sentence.
- Write a sentence to express own thoughts.
- Continue expanding verbal vocabulary. |
- Learn to share information and experiences in a loud, clear voice.
Penmanship
- Learn to properly print first and last name.
- Master correct formation of letters & numbers and spacing between words.
- Copy words and sentences from paper to paper.
- Begin copying words and sentences from chalkboard to paper.
Mathematics
- Confidently rote count to 100 and count 50 objects accurately.
- Learn concepts of numbers to 50.
- Recognize the numerals 0-100.
- Know concepts such as: first, second & third; big, bigger, biggest; first, next, last, etc.
- Know days of the week.
Science & Health
- Study farm and zoo life and recognize which animals can be found in these places.

Learn about common animals; what they eat, where they live, what kinds of homes they make.

Learn how plants grow from seeds and recognize the basic order of steps in plant growth.

Learn basic body parts and their functions, and good habits for general health & hygiene.

Study sound (music, volume, pitch and tone) and touch (temperature, texture).
