Reading/ Language Arts
Our A Beka program is a thorough, enjoyable, and
highly teachable phonics approach to reading. Instruction is presented in six
easy steps: short vowels, consonants, blends, one-vowel words, long vowels and
the two-vowel rule, and special phonics sounds. Students apply the phonemic
awareness to build word recognition skills and strategies to begin to read and
understand text. Students learn that ideas and thoughts are communicated
through words. Students develop a mastery for forming letters and correct
sentence structure.
Mathematics
The Houghton Mifflin math series allow Kindergartners to learn
the following math concepts using their own consumable math books: sorting,
patterns, number sense, telling time, measurements, addition, and subtraction.
Students have the option of using math manipulative to extend their learning.
This curriculum prepares students for the first grade math series as they begin
to build their mathematical communication skills.
Science
The F.O.S.S. (Full Option Science System) science kit is an interactive
approach to teaching science. Students are engaged in scientific experiments
using real scientific tools. In Kindergarten, students will start the year off with
"Animals Two by Two." Students discover how baby animals look like when
they become adults. They even get to have a pet in their classroom! Other
concepts such as "Wood and Paper" allow students to explore the many things
that are made out of wood.
Social Studies
The Social Studies Curriculum for Kindergarten "Me and My
Community" introduces the structures of schools and families. Students learn
how to get along with classmates, follow school rules, and identify roles of
people within their community. They learn about family traditions and the ways
in which family members interact and change. They apply their learning in
hands-on activities such as categorizing photographs of family members and
acting out different roles within the community.
