Reading/ Language Arts
Students in first grade use the A Beka reading and writing series. Reading and writing is integrated in the form of workshops. Students learn a variety of reading strategies to think critically and analyze different reading materials. Students learn the writing process by publishing their own stories monthly. Students publish stories in the form of cards, booklets, and/or posters. Students get to culminate their themes with special celebrations, such as reader’s theater, which parents are welcome to attend!

Mathematics
In first grade, students will be using the curriculums Math Their
Way and Houghton Mifflin. Students will develop a mastery for number sense
and operations, geometry, data analysis, measurements, and patterns and

math games, and word problems. Students learn to build mathematical
vocabulary as they discuss and refine solutions to problems.

Science
The F.O.S.S. (Full Option Science System) Science Kit is an interactive

experimenting with ideas and materials. In first grade, students begin by
discovering how plants grow and all the materials that are needed. Students
get to see their own seed grow into a plant right before their eyes! Other
concepts such as "Air and Weather" help students to discover how air has an
affect on temperature.
